Who we are

Leaving Irene is a Boston-based indie-rock band formed by cousins Rocco DeRosa and Jake DeRosa, a duo whose musical chemistry is rooted in family ties and a shared love of guitar-driven soundscapes. Blending melodic riff-work with emotive songwriting, Leaving Irene crafts songs that balance raw energy with thoughtful introspection.

Drawing influence from modern indie rock and classic alternative bands, their music centers on expressive guitar lines, dynamic arrangements, and hooks that linger long after the last chord fades. Whether playing intimate venues or shaping new material in the studio, Rocco and Jake bring a natural synergy that gives the project its pulse.

Leaving Irene continues to expand their presence in Boston’s vibrant music scene, building a sound that’s both familiar and distinctly their own.Their debut EP, Basement Springs, showcases this emotional depth, weaving together the past and present in four striking tracks. Supported by Doug Standley (drums) and Stefan Pescatore (bass), the band enlisted top-tier talent to bring their vision to life—recording with Brian Charles (The Sheila Divine, Dispatch) and Annie Hoffman at Rare Signals Studio, mixing with Brian Scheuble (Don Henley, Stevie Nicks, Tom Petty, Dave Matthews), and mastering with Dave Collins (Bruce Springsteen, Quincy Jones, Third Eye Blind).

Through evocative storytelling, soaring melodies, and anthemic crescendos, Leaving Irene invites listeners to navigate their own histories, find beauty in the echoes, and move forward—without forgetting where they’ve been.
